About Blue North Strategies

Blue North is a marketing agency of roughly 25 people based in Guelph, Ontario. We replace old-fashioned mass communications approaches with highly focused personalized communications programs, in which each member of the audience enjoys an experience that reflects their unique relationship with the organization.

In our Social Sector practice, we work with organizations who raise money to do the good they do in the world. Our work runs the gamut from strategy, to designing the communications calendar, to actually building and executing the communications touchpoints in that calendar - both on paper and on the web.

While we have a team of highly capable graphic designers on staff, we're looking for freelance resources who can help us out when we need additional bench strength. What we're looking for is described below.

Job Description

Our freelance resources are expected to be able to bring to life the vision that is expressed in the creative briefs written by our account team. These briefs outline the purpose, objectives, and tactics of the campaign, and will also identify resources provided by the client to assist in fleshing out the design.

Blue North has design standards which need to be followed, as do each of our clients, so it's important that our freelance resources have a good sense of when to blue sky and when to paint within the lines.

You will work under the direction of our Resourcing Manager, who will ensure that you have everything you need in order to fulfill the job requirements.

More specifically, the job requires that you:

>      Read and understand the creative brief you are provided

>      Seek clarification of anything that is unclear

>      Work with our copywriters to understand the integration of static text, variable text, and imagery

>      Prepare and revise creative layouts under the direction of our staff designers

>      Prepare final artwork based on approved layouts, including type mark ups

>      Research, gather and prepare graphic material (photos/illustrations)

It is assumed that you can work to deadlines, take direction where needed, and produce finished artwork with a high degree of quality and accuracy.

Minimum Requirements

>      Diploma in Graphic Design or equivalent

>      At least 5 years experience in the field

>      Must be computer literate with an excellent working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat/Distiller, QuarkXPress, InDesign, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Scanning software

>      Familiarity with digital print equipment is a strong asset

Please send resume to debbie@bluenorth.ca. We look forward to hearing from you.
