Summary of the role

The role of Data Specialist is to receive various data, validate, adjust, and process to support various marketing campaigns and departments. You will work with project managers to ensure their data processing needs are met, provide answers to client questions, be a detective in understanding problems and find solutions. Think: somewhere between designing databases and data entry. To be successful, the employee must be competent and confident with data manipulation, on the fly; and excellent communication skills.



  • Provide support and programming to all aspects of data from: reporting, analytics, troubleshooting, updating, importing/exporting and transforming data
  • Complete documentation, transmission, and validation of client data
  • Understand and perform required data transformations within an SQL Server environment using SSMS, SSIS
  • Set-up each job for data processing, trouble-shoot and enhance when required
  • Support the management of our SQL Server and Access databases

Knowledge and Experience

  • Diploma/degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or sufficient experience in a related field
  • Experience building, using, and monitoring data integration (ETL) workflows from multiple sources including but not limited to databases (MSSQL, MYSQL, other), flat files, JSON/XML, APIs
  • Solid experience in writing and optimizing ANSI SQL to support analysis, report design, and other specialized data management functions
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, exercising sound judgement in client engagement with ability to act professionally with all levels across the organization
  • Works well with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities

Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:

  • Experience with Microsoft SSMS, SSIS
  • Experience with Visual Studio or similar
  • Advanced level Excel, including Pivot Tables, Charts, and advanced functions
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment
  • Python programming experience designing & deploying ETL workflows, microservices, APIs, and web interfaces
  • Variable print composition or personalized digital campaigns
  • 1-3 years of experience, preferably in an agency or fundraising environment
