HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

Human Resources Manager

 

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for all Blue North’s Human Resources functions. This includes payroll, recruiting, hiring, policy development, employee performance management, benefits administration and keeping detailed Human Resources records.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Hiring of new employees:

  • Oversee hiring process from posting to hiring
    • Perform initial screening interviews
    • Facilitate interviews and their scheduling
    • Prepare employment offers
    • Set up training and orientation
    • Manage the onboarding of new employees

Payroll:

  • Manage payroll system (Ceridian) and administer semi-monthly pay – Canada and US
  • Ensure employees receive necessary documents (paystubs, T4s, US forms)

Document management:

  • Finalize and update job descriptions
  • Maintain org chart
  • Maintain the vacation schedule (SharePoint, Workamajig and whiteboard) and records
  • Enter vacations, stat holidays and company meetings in Workamajig
  • Oversee and update employee handbooks (Canada and US) and Guide to Day One
  • Keep updated records on employee contact information, parking assignments

 

Performance management:

  • Oversee bonus programs and records
  • Work with the Manager of Training, Talent and Team to ensure Blue North continues to be an attractive and competitive place to work
  • Meet with employees monthly (or quarterly) for check-ins
  • Perform stay interviews, exit interviews and energy checks as needed
  • Keep on top of salary market trends, suggest adjustments when necessary
  • Oversee and participate in employee terminations as necessary

 

Benefits program:

  • Oversee the health/dental benefits, EAP and RRSP/DPSP programs
    • Enrolment, updates, terminations
    • Meet with agent annually
    • Keep employees current with changes
  • Keep up-to-date and confidential HR files on each employee (Workamajig, Ceridian, GWL and paper)
  • Ensure Blue North follows Employment Standards Act
  • Administer AODA and keep up to date
  • Ensure consistency in Blue North HR forms and documents
  • Be the resource person for all HR-related issues

Other:

  • Approve wires and EFTs as requested by Finance department
  • Work with Office Manager to schedule social events
  • Work with Office Manager to resolve office management issues when necessary
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times

 

Skills

  • Minimum eight to ten years of experience in a Human Resources role
  • Up-to-date knowledge of employment law, Employment Standards Act, Human Resources trends and issues gained through work experience and education
  • Knowledge in Canadian payroll systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • High degree of confidentiality
  • Strong ability to handle multiple priorities within deadlines
  • Ability to listen and act accordingly
  • Sensitivity to all staff
