New Thoughts on New Donors

Written By: Cam Shapansky

Before I get ahead of myself, I wanted to note how excited I am to be sharing this blog with you from our brand new website! Be sure to take a browse and check out our new resources and content.

Now time to get back to business…

Over the past few years, as we all know, it’s been extremely difficult to acquire new donors. As a result, we’ve seen organizations place nearly all of their focus and investment on attempting to crack that nut. While this is obviously critical, and strides have been made to develop a new mix of strategies and approaches to attract donors, other equally critical areas have suffered for many organizations.

Specifically, in a time when it’s becoming more difficult and expensive to acquire donors, we NEED TO be placing and EVEN HIGHER emphasis on nurturing the relationships with the ones we have, to ensure they continue giving.

There is no question we need to develop robust acquisition funnels, but we also need to make sure we’re offering incredible experiences to newly acquired and existing donors. This means providing an incredible welcome or ‘onboarding’  experience and staying engaged with donors before they lose interest and lapse.

There’s nothing we love more than having the opportunity to apply our expertise to exciting initiatives to help our clients. Blue North partnered with Basset Direct to help World Vision Canada, one of our valued clients, launch a multi-channel Welcome Series to increase donor engagement and satisfaction. Read more about how this strategic approach created a personalized experience for donors and a greater impact in the field of child sponsorship.

On June 8th I’m excited to be sharing the stage with James Carroll from World Vision Canada at the AFP Fundraising Day in Toronto. James led the Welcome Series initiative at World Vision, which leveraged available technology to provide new child sponsors with a brand new, deeply engaging and personalized experience. And it worked!

I’m looking forward to a fun session to cover some great topics with a few highly influential and innovative leaders in the field. If you are in attendance, don’t hesitate to find me for a chat!
